Agentforce World Tour Boston
I attended Agentforce World Tour Boston on Thursday via the Salesforce+ platform. I was able to listen to the sessions while getting my work tasks completed for the day.
One thing that stood out to me was the evangelical push for AI, specifically Agentforce agents, to replace human workers. Some sessions thankfully emphasized that the human element would always be there to monitor the AI bots, but there was a strong focus on saving money by having the Agentforce agents perform lower-level tasks. I support the idea of using tools to help companies become more productive, but I feel conflicted about the current messaging coming from Salesforce. Instead of the "Ohana" messaging that promoted creating good jobs & equality for everyone, it seems more cold with a focus on creating AI bots to replace those roles. This shift is interesting, and it likely stems from pressure from the investment backers & even from political sources.
The new messaging leaves me feeling conflicted. I entered the tech industry to help others, not to replace them. I've been learning about Agentforce and trying to keep up with the constantly changing landscape, but I don't understand how companies expect this technology to completely eliminate the need for human workers. I realize that AI might be cheaper than hiring humans, but at what cost (morally, ethically, economically, etc)?
Salesforce is more of an AI-focused company now versus CRM. One of the things that initially attracted me to Salesforce as a career option was the robust CRM platform. They seem to have abandoned their core purpose in favor of the latest AI technological advancements. I'm uncertain if their direction still aligns with my career interests, but definitely something more to further ponder.
